Ingredients

For the brownie:

  • – 140 grams dark chocolate chopped
  • – 50 grams ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • – 50 grams ¼ cup brown sugar
  • – 1 egg
  • – 35 grams ¼ cup flour

For the butter cake:

  • – 120 grams ½ cup unsalted butter
  • – 100 grams ½ cup sugar
  • – 2 eggs
  • – 120 grams 1 cup flour
  • – ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • – 50 ml fresh milk

Instructions

  • Grease and line a 10cm x 20cm rectangular loaf pan.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • To make the brownie, melt chocolate and butter over low heat. Remove from heat once melted and let it cool slightly.
  • Add brown sugar and mix until combined.
  • Once cooled, add the egg and mix well.
  • Incorporate the flour, mixing until well combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and quickly prepare the butter cake batter.
  • Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift in the flour and baking powder, slowly add fresh milk, and mix until a consistent batter forms.
  • Pour the butter cake batter over the partially baked brownie and bake for an additional 25 to 30 minutes or until fully cooked. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
  • Once done, unmold and let it cool.
  • This cake pairs well with coffee or green tea. Your friends or guests won’t forget it!
