Ingredients

  • – 1 1/8 cups filtered water

    – 2 tbsp active dry yeast

    – 1/3 cup oil (olive, vegetable, etc.)

    – 3 tbsp white granulated sugar

    – 1 large egg

    – 3 to 3 1/3 cups bread flour or all-purpose/plain flour

    – 1 tsp salt

    – Butter for basting

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, mix hot water (105 to 115°F), a pinch of sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit until foamy (5 to 10 mins).
  • Combine oil and sugar with the yeast mixture. Beat a separate egg and add it to the mix. Blend well with a whisk.
  • Whisk together flour and salt, then gradually add a cup at a time to the wet ingredients. Stir until a smooth dough forms, leaving some flour.
  • Knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer for 8 to 10 minutes, incorporating extra flour as needed.
  • Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • After rising, punch down the dough, divide it into 16 equal pieces, and shape them into hotdog bun forms. Arrange on a sheet pan.
  • Baste the tops with butter, cover loosely, and let them rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown. Baste with butter and cool before serving.
